Facebook 3D photo missing or not working?

Facebook 3D photos were the first time most people saw a still picture move with real depth. You tilted your phone or scrolled, and the photo shifted like a little window into the scene. If you have tried to make one lately, chances are you hit a wall: the 3D Photo option is missing from the post menu, or the photo uploads flat.
Here is what to check, and how to make the same effect from any picture when Facebook won't do it for you.
Quick checks if the 3D Photo option is missing
- Use the mobile app. The 3D Photo option was only ever in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android. It never existed on facebook.com in a desktop browser.
- Update the app. Install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play, then restart it.
- Look in the right place. Start a new post, open the list of post types (the "…" or "More" menu) and look for 3D Photo. It is not in the regular photo picker.
- Post to your profile. The option was not available everywhere, for example in some groups, Pages or Stories.
- Try a different photo. Very small images, panoramas and some formats were rejected or uploaded flat.
If the option still isn't there, it is simply not available for your account or device. Facebook rolls features in and out by region and app version, and many people report that 3D photos have disappeared for them. There is no setting to turn it back on.
The reliable way: make the 3D photo yourself
Facebook's 3D photos worked by estimating a depth map of your picture and moving it with a parallax effect. You can do exactly that with an online tool, and the result is not locked to one app.
- Open Deep Photo on your phone or computer.
- Upload the photo you wanted to post. Any JPG, PNG or WEBP works.
- In 10 to 30 seconds the AI adds depth. Move your finger or mouse over it to see the 3D effect.
- Export it as an HD MP4 with a smooth camera move. Choose 1:1 or the original proportions for a Facebook post, 9:16 for Stories and Reels.
- Post the video to Facebook like any other video. It plays automatically in the feed, so the 3D effect is visible right away while people scroll.

Make a 3D photoWhy a video is often better than a Facebook 3D photo
- It works everywhere. The same file goes to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, YouTube Shorts and your website.
- People see the effect without touching it. A Facebook 3D photo only moved when the viewer tilted or scrolled. A video moves on its own.
- You choose the motion. The camera move is smooth and centered on your subject.
- You can share the interactive version too. A saved Deep Photo has a link that opens the tilt-able 3D photo in any browser, and an embed code for blogs and sites.

Frequently asked questions
Why can't I find the 3D Photo option on Facebook?
The option only ever appeared in the Facebook mobile app, not on the website, and it depends on your app version, device and region. Many people report it is gone from the post menu. If it isn't there after updating the app, it is not available for your account.
How can I post a 3D photo on Facebook without the 3D Photo feature?
Make the 3D photo with an online tool such as Deep Photo, export it as a short MP4 video with a camera move, and post the video. Videos play everywhere: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp.
Can I make a Facebook-style 3D photo from an old photo?
Yes. AI depth estimation works on any single picture, including scans of old prints, screenshots and photos taken on phones without portrait mode.
